5 big firms block AI shoppers like Muse

JPMorgan Chase, Charles Schwab, Amazon, Kohl's and Neiman Marcus block outside AI agents such as Meta's Muse, CNBC reported on the 1st of November 2026. AI agents are programs that act for a person, such as shopping or moving money.

Muse is Meta's personal agent. People use such agents to find better savings rates, shop for deals and cancel subscriptions, CNBC said.

Banks say it is too risky

JPMorgan does not let outside agents log in for retail customers, a spokeswoman told CNBC. Agents can read some data, such as balances, but cannot send money.

Chief executive Jamie Dimon said rogue agents could arrive in the thousands.

Amazon asked Meta to stop

Amazon said shopping apps should respect a store's choice to take part. It asked Meta to remove Amazon from Muse, a spokesperson told CNBC.

Walmart, Shopify and Best Buy have instead agreed to work with Muse, Silicon Report said.

Blocked by old rules

A firm called Billions Network checked the published rules of 51 large US shops. Only 11 had taken a clear position on AI agents.

Five, including Amazon, block agents on purpose, CNBC said. Another 37 block them mostly by accident, through old rules meant to stop data scrapers.
