5 tech giants commit $3 trillion to AI build

Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle have committed more than 3 trillion dollars to future spending, much of it on AI data centres, Bloomberg reported. Alphabet alone is above 1 trillion.

Big Tech's AI data centres

Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle have committed more than 3 trillion dollars to future spending, Bloomberg reported on the 30th of October 2026. Much of it is for data centres that run AI.

The pledges cover leases, buildings, energy and equipment, Bloomberg said. Some of them run for as long as 30 years.

Alphabet leads

Alphabet, Google's parent company, reported more than 1 trillion dollars of commitments in its latest filing, Bloomberg said. That is nearly 8 times the figure a year earlier.

Meta disclosed more than 800 billion dollars in future spending, Bloomberg said. A bit less than half is for data centre leases that have not started yet.

Hard to compare

Each company reports its commitments a little differently, so they are hard to compare, Bloomberg said. Some spending is for other things, such as content licences at Alphabet and Amazon.

Alphabet and Meta have dipped into negative free cash flow, meaning they spend more cash than they bring in, Bloomberg said. Oracle expects to return to positive free cash flow in 2028.

Below we break down the total

Future leases make up 1.3 trillion dollars, and other purchase orders come to 1.9 trillion, Bloomberg said. Together that is 3.2 trillion dollars, by our arithmetic.

Alphabet's share of more than 1 trillion dollars is about one third of that total.

What is confirmed and what is not

Bloomberg added up the figures from each company's latest financial reports. Microsoft's figures come from its annual report for the year to June.
