Anthropic gifts Agent Skills used by 70 apps

Anthropic is giving its Agent Skills format to the Agentic AI Foundation, it said on the 22nd of October 2026. More than 70 agent platforms, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, have adopted it.

Anthropic is giving its Agent Skills format to the Agentic AI Foundation, Anthropic's @ClaudeDevs account posted on X on the 22nd of October 2026. More than 70 AI agent platforms have adopted the format since December 2025, the post said.

Agent Skills is a shared way to package know-how that AI agents can load, such as how to fill in a form. The foundation is a neutral group that already looks after MCP, a standard Anthropic also gave it, @ClaudeDevs wrote.

The platforms that use Agent Skills include OpenAI's ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Microsoft's VS Code, @ClaudeDevs wrote. MCP is a standard that lets AI apps connect to other tools.

"Agent Skills started as an experiment in Claude Code," Anthropic's Boris Cherny wrote on X on the 22nd of October. Claude Code is Anthropic's tool that writes software.

Engineers from 6 companies will steer Agent Skills

Engineers from Anthropic, Earendil, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and OpenCode will steer the format, @ClaudeDevs wrote. Skills keep working, licences stay the same, and anyone can use the format without joining, the post said.

Their first job is a plan with numbered releases, a way to suggest changes and safety advice, @ClaudeDevs wrote.
