Gemini 4 Argon out: API price doubles Dec 1

Google opened Gemini 4 Argon to the public on the 13th of October 2026, in the Gemini app and the paid API. A job that costs 4 dollars in the API today costs 8 from the 1st of December.

Google's Gemini 4 Argon, now public

Half price until the 30th of November, then double. That is the deal Google put on Gemini 4 Argon when it opened the model to the public on the 13th of October 2026.

Google's blog said that day that Argon is live in the Gemini app for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Developers get it through the paid Gemini API.

Argon went from cyber defenders to the public in 13 days

Google first gave Argon to cyber defenders on the 30th of September. Daily Agentic covered that rollout, and a leaked sister model, on the 12th of October.

Google Cloud added Argon on the 14th of October, its blog says.

Below we break down what the API price means for one coding job

Argon costs 2 dollars per million input tokens and 10 per million output tokens through the 30th of November, Google's price list says. From the 1st of December it costs 4 and 20.

Tokens are small pieces of text. Take a job that reads 1 million tokens and writes 200,000.

That job costs 4 dollars today and 8 dollars from December, by our arithmetic. Thinking tokens count as output, the price list says, and batch jobs cost half.

From December, Argon matches Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, which costs 4 and 20 dollars on Anthropic's price list.

Price table: Google's Gemini 4 Argon costs 2 dollars input and 10 output per million tokens through the 30th of November, then 4 and 20; Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 costs 4 and 20; a job of 1 million tokens in and 200,000 out costs 4 dollars, then 8Price table: Google's Gemini 4 Argon costs 2 dollars input and 10 output per million tokens through the 30th of November, then 4 and 20; Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 costs 4 and 20; a job of 1 million tokens in and 200,000 out costs 4 dollars, then 8

DeepSWE: Argon at 77.9%, Opus 5.5 at 74.2%, on Google's own table

DeepSWE v1.1 tests long software jobs. Google DeepMind's model page, read on the 15th of October, puts Argon at 77.9% and Opus 5.5 at 74.2%.

The same table shows Opus 5.5 ahead on Terminal-bench 4.0, at 66.4% against 57.4%. Artificial Analysis, an independent test lab, scores Argon at 53 on its intelligence index.

What is confirmed: Pro gets the app, Ultra gets more

Google's app post names AI Pro and Ultra. Its developer post puts AI Studio and Antigravity, its coding tool, under Ultra.

Google's US plan page lists AI Pro at 19.99 dollars a month and Ultra from 99.99. Free users get no Argon, the API price list says.
