Gemini API tool works in 6 coding helpers

Google's new Gemini API CLI works in 6 named AI coding helpers, including Claude Code and Codex, Google said on the 19th of October 2026. A CLI is a program you type commands into.

Google's Philipp Schmid shared a demo on X on the 26th of October. He wrote: "It's NOT a new coding agent".

What it does

The tool, called gemini-api, lets an AI helper reach Google's Gemini models from the command line. It can make pictures, video, speech and music, and read PDFs and YouTube links.

It can also turn recordings into text and run Deep Research, Google's research agent, in the background. Media files go straight to disk, so the helper's memory stays small.

Which helpers

Google's page names Antigravity, Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, Hermes and Cursor. Any AI helper that can run commands can use it, Google said.

The tool is a free test version for Mac, Linux and Windows. It needs a Gemini API key, a code that links use to a Google account.

Cloud credits

Separately, Google AI Pro includes 10 dollars a month of Google Cloud credit, a Google page updated on the 13th of October says. Ultra plans get 40 or 100 dollars.

What is confirmed and what is not

Google calls the tool an experimental preview, version 0.4, and said its commands may change. Built-in support in Antigravity is "coming soon", the page says.
