NVIDIA's H200 chip costs 160% more to rent
Renting NVIDIA's H200 AI chip costs about 160% more than on the 1st of January 2026, the investment firm a16z said on the 23rd of October 2026. Rents for 4 other NVIDIA chips also rose.

NVIDIA's H200: rent up 160% this yearRenting NVIDIA's H200 AI chip costs about 160% more than in January, investment firm a16z said on X on the 23rd of October 2026. The figures come from Ornn Data, a firm that tracks chip prices, a16z wrote in its newsletter.
A GPU is a chip that runs AI programs, and firms often rent them by the hour. "GPUs are aging like fine wine," a16z wrote, meaning they gain value with age.
NVIDIA's B200 rent rose 120%, the RTX PRO 6000 65% and the H100 35%
The rent for NVIDIA's B200 rose about 120% this year, a16z wrote. The RTX PRO 6000 rose about 65% and the H100 about 35%, the post said.
Even NVIDIA's 6-year-old A100 rents for more than it did at the start of the year, a16z wrote. It gave no figure for the A100.
a16z compared the prices with 6 years of value loss
Most machines lose value as they age. The firm compared the rents with a plan in which a chip loses the same value each year over 6 years.
Against that plan, prices run from 9% to 143% higher, a16z wrote in its newsletter on the 23rd of October.
Below we break down what 160% means for a renter

A rise of 160% means the rent is 2.6 times the January price, by our arithmetic. A chip that rented for 10 dollars an hour in January would now cost about 26 dollars, by our arithmetic.
The B200 now costs 2.2 times its January rent and the H100 1.35 times, by our arithmetic. The 10 dollar figure is only an example, since a16z gave no dollar prices.
