OpenAI Decisions API now takes 400 questions

OpenAI made its Decisions API generally available on the 22nd of October 2026. It takes up to 400 questions a call and, by our arithmetic, 10,000 decisions cost about 2 dollars, or 30 cents with its new cache.

OpenAI's Decisions API is out of beta

OpenAI's Decisions API left its test phase on the 22nd of October 2026, the company's changelog says. It is a service for apps that need short, fixed answers from AI.

It now takes up to 400 questions in one request, up from 200 in the test, OpenAI's guide says. The test, called a beta, began on the 6th of October.

What the Decisions API answers: yes or no, a pick, or a score

It runs only on OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna model and gives 3 kinds of answers, the guide says.

A yes-or-no question gets a chance from 0 to 1. A choice picks one answer from your list, and a score rates something on 2 to 10 levels.

What is new since the beta: pictures, data and a cheaper repeat

Apps can now put pictures inside the questions and send data in a fixed format called JSON, the changelog says.

Text that repeats can now be cached, kept in a short-term memory. Reading it again costs a tenth of the normal price, OpenAI's price page shows for GPT-6 Luna.

Below we break down what 10,000 decisions cost

The price stays 0.10 dollars per million tokens read, OpenAI's guide says. Tokens are small pieces of words, and the answers cost nothing.

Say an app asks 10,000 questions with the same 2,000 tokens of rules, plus 100 tokens of its own. That reads 21 million tokens and costs 2.10 dollars, by our arithmetic.

With the cache, the rules cost 0.01 dollars per million after the first save. The bill falls to about 0.30 dollars.

What 10,000 decisions cost, each with the same 2,000 tokens of rules and 100 tokens of its own: OpenAI's Decisions API 2.10 dollars; with OpenAI's cache 0.30 dollars; Celeris-1-decision 0.84 dollarsWhat 10,000 decisions cost, each with the same 2,000 tokens of rules and 100 tokens of its own: OpenAI's Decisions API 2.10 dollars; with OpenAI's cache 0.30 dollars; Celeris-1-decision 0.84 dollars

The company Celeris charges 0.04 dollars per million tokens for its Celeris-1-decision model, its website says. The same job would cost 0.84 dollars there.

What is confirmed and what is not

OpenAI says the service answers about 10 times faster than its main API. Speak, a language app, said its next step fell from 1.4 seconds to 0.13, Unite.AI reported on the 22nd.

Unite.AI noted that these speed figures come from OpenAI and its customers.
