OpenAI makes Codex auto-review free and loads a reset in 28-day pledge
An OpenAI Codex lead promised one improvement or a usage reset every day for 28 days, starting on the 4th of October.

OpenAI made Codex auto-review free on the 6th of October 2026, Thibault Sottiaux wrote on X. His profile lists his work as Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI.
Auto-review no longer counts against users' plans when they sign in with ChatGPT, he wrote.
Why it matters
The change is part of a pledge Sottiaux posted on the 4th of October. For 28 days, OpenAI will each day "ship one thing that is a clear improvement" or "ship a full reset", he wrote.
Users want things "to get simpler", he wrote in an earlier post that day.
Key facts
On day one, the 5th of October, GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol got about 50 percent faster, Sottiaux wrote.
Auto-review is a second agent that checks steps leaving the main agent's safe work area, the Codex documentation says. That way the main agent does not stop to wait for a person.

Sottiaux then asked users in a poll on X if they wanted a reset. Of 74,565 votes, 76 percent chose "needs a reset", the final count shows.

On the 7th of October, he wrote that a "banked reset" was loading in everyone's paid accounts. Codex and ChatGPT Work had reached 40 million active users, he wrote.
What's next
The posts do not explain what a reset is. OpenAI's pricing page tells users to check their dashboard for "current limits and reset times".
