OpenAI opens Decisions API beta and cuts API usage tiers to three
OpenAI released the Decisions API in beta on the 6th of October and cut its API usage tiers from five to three.

OpenAI released the Decisions API in beta on the 6th of October 2026, according to the OpenAI API changelog. The service reads text and images and returns short answers in a fixed form.
On the same day, OpenAI cut its API usage tiers from five to three, the changelog says.
Why it matters
The API answers yes or no checks, picks from a list or gives a score, OpenAI's guide says. Companies can use it to sort content and route requests.
OpenAI says it is "10x faster than the Responses API". It charges only for input, at 0.10 dollars per million tokens, according to the guide.
Key facts
GPT-6 Luna is the only model it uses, the guide says.
One example in the guide checks a product photo for a crack, tear or dent. Another rates a problem as cosmetic, workaround available or fully blocked.

The three new tiers are Build, Launch and Grow, OpenAI's rate-limits guide says. Build starts at 5 dollars in total credit purchases, with a monthly limit of 500 dollars.

Organizations now move up a tier on their own as they buy more credits, the changelog says.
What's next
OpenAI expects the API to leave beta "in the coming weeks", according to the guide. Thibault Sottiaux of OpenAI wrote on X that OpenAI will use it in its own app.
