OpenAI's GPT-6 joins Google Cloud: 3 models

OpenAI and Google Cloud said on the 21st of October 2026 that three OpenAI models are coming to Google's cloud, in a closed test first. Companies pay on their Google bill, and Microsoft is no longer the only cloud selling OpenAI's models.

OpenAI's GPT-6 models on Google Cloud

OpenAI will sell three of its AI models through Google Cloud, the two firms said on the 21st of October 2026. AI models are the programs behind chatbots like ChatGPT, and Google Cloud rents computers and AI to firms online.

Firms that pay Google will get OpenAI's models on the same bill, Google wrote. Until April, only Microsoft could sell them this way.

Three OpenAI models, first for a small group of companies

Google named OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna in its blog post of the 21st of October. A few big firms get them first, in a closed test.

Astra is OpenAI's strongest model, for hard work, Google wrote. Sol comes close for less money, and Luna is fast and cheap.

Below we break down what the three models cost

OpenAI charges for the text a model reads and the text it writes.

A token is a bit of a word. A million tokens is about 750,000 words, OpenAI says.

To write a million tokens, Astra costs 50 dollars, Sol 10 and Luna 50 cents, OpenAI's price page shows. So Astra costs 100 times as much as Luna, by our arithmetic.

What OpenAI's three models cost on OpenAI's own price page, per million tokens: GPT-6 Astra 10 dollars to read and 50 dollars to write; GPT-6.1 Sol 2 dollars to read and 10 dollars to write; GPT-6 Luna 10 cents to read and 50 cents to writeWhat OpenAI's three models cost on OpenAI's own price page, per million tokens: GPT-6 Astra 10 dollars to read and 50 dollars to write; GPT-6.1 Sol 2 dollars to read and 10 dollars to write; GPT-6 Luna 10 cents to read and 50 cents to write

What is confirmed and what is not: no Google price, no date for everyone

Google's price page shows no price for them, as of the 23rd of October. All customers get them "in the coming weeks", OpenAI wrote, with no date.

One Google bill, and Codex for people who write code

Firms buy the models in Google's online shop, OpenAI wrote. Money they already set aside for Google can pay for them.

Coders can also link Codex, OpenAI's helper that writes code, to Google's service, Google wrote.

What changes for Microsoft: first in line, no longer the only seller

Microsoft lost its sole right to sell OpenAI's models in a deal of the 27th of April 2026, OpenAI wrote. A day later, Amazon said it would offer them too, CNBC reported.

New OpenAI products still come first on Microsoft's cloud, that deal says. OpenAI pays Microsoft a share of its sales until 2030, up to a set limit.
