OpenAI's deals with Abu Dhabi

OpenAI signed four AI agreements with Abu Dhabi groups on the 2nd of November 2026, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said. Chief executive Sam Altman met Abu Dhabi's crown prince before the signing.

The deals cover energy, investment, schools and government. No money figures were made public.

ADNOC is the first energy firm

State oil company ADNOC and AI firm G42 signed a deal to use OpenAI's most advanced AI across ADNOC's work, Reuters reported. ADNOC chief Sultan Al Jaber said it is the first energy company to do so.

The AI will run on OpenAI's GPT models inside the UAE, the Media Office said. G42 signed through its unit Inception42.

Three more agreements

Wealth fund Mubadala and Inception42 will use the AI to study investments and risks. Inception42 also signed a five year deal to bring OpenAI's AI to government, business and schools.

The Abu Dhabi government launched a plan to turn its rules into a form AI can read. Its first test checks food imports, and officials still make the final call.

Altman on energy

Altman said energy is one of OpenAI's big challenges, Reuters reported. He said the power needed to run AI will be the main factor in its cost.

Below we break down the numbers

Four deals were signed, and one of them is with ADNOC. The Inception42 deal runs five years, which is 60 months.

OpenAI is trying to raise up to 20 billion dollars in a round led by UAE investors, CNBC reported. That is about one sixth of the 122 billion dollars it raised in March, by our arithmetic.
