OpenAI wins Replit with 30 percent discount

OpenAI won most of Replit's AI spending from Anthropic with a discount of more than 30 percent, The Information reported on the 24th of October 2026. Rippling and DataCamp were also offered cheaper deals.

OpenAI's price cuts pull Replit

OpenAI won most of Replit's AI spending from Anthropic with more than 30 percent off, The Information reported on the 24th of October 2026. The contract is worth more than 100 million dollars a year, the report said.

OpenAI is using deep price cuts to pull big customers away from Anthropic, the report said. Neither company has commented in public.

Who Replit is and what it moved

Replit is an app that lets people build software by chatting with AI. It moved most of its AI spending to OpenAI in recent months, The Information reported.

Anthropic would not renew an earlier discount unless Replit spent more, the AI-RTZ newsletter wrote on the 26th of October 2026, citing the report.

Rippling's coding work flipped to OpenAI

Rippling makes software for staff pay and records. In May, Anthropic's models did 57 percent of its coding work and OpenAI's did 16 percent, CEO Parker Conrad told The Information.

Now OpenAI's models do 52 percent and Anthropic's do 18 percent, he said. Rippling wanted to cut costs, and OpenAI was cheaper.

DataCamp and a US bank got offers too

DataCamp, a learning website, was offered 40 percent off if it also used OpenAI's Codex coding tool, the report said. Its CEO said its costs could fall by 80 to 90 percent.

A US bank doubled its ChatGPT seats to 500 for the same price, the report said. It pays under 7 dollars a seat, against the usual 20 dollars or more.

Below we break down the Replit deal

Rippling's coding work by AI company: Anthropic 57 percent in May and 18 percent in October; OpenAI 16 percent in May and 52 percent in OctoberRippling's coding work by AI company: Anthropic 57 percent in May and 18 percent in October; OpenAI 16 percent in May and 52 percent in October

A 30 percent cut on 100 million dollars a year saves 30 million dollars a year, by our arithmetic. Both figures in the report are minimums, so the real saving may be larger.

What is confirmed and what is not

The Information's story is behind a paywall, so we read it through The Decoder, AI-RTZ and Benzinga. The Decoder's "up to 90 percent" headline is DataCamp's own estimate of savings.
