Perplexity's free decision AI: 4B and 27B

Perplexity put two decision models on Hugging Face on the 15th of October 2026, free to download. They answer yes or no, pick one or score questions with odds, for 1 or 2 cents per million tokens.

Perplexity's pplx-decider models, free

Perplexity has put out two new decision models that anyone can download for free, its pages on Hugging Face show. One is large, with 27 billion parameters, and one is small, with 4 billion.

Parameters are the numbers a model learns in training. Hugging Face, a website for AI models, shows both pages were made on the 15th of October 2026.

What a decision model does: yes or no, pick one, give a score

A decision model writes no text. It answers short questions with odds, such as how likely an email is spam, Perplexity's pages say.

It can also pick one answer from a list or give a score. The large one, pplx-decider-v1.2, replaces an older v1.1, and the small one, pplx-decider-flash-v1.2, is new.

Below we break down Perplexity's own test scores

Perplexity tested both on the Decision Index 0.3, a public set of tests for decision models. The large model scored 68.09 and the small one 58.88, its pages show.

The older v1.1 scored 62.30. Perplexity gives no scores for OpenAI's gpt-6-luna, TypeSafe AI's Jev or Celeris's Celeris-1-decision, so its numbers cannot rank them.

Prices: 2 cents and 1 cent for each million tokens

Perplexity charges 0.02 dollars for each million tokens sent to the large model and 0.01 dollars for the small one, its price page shows. Tokens are small pieces of words, and answers are free.

So 1 billion tokens cost 20 dollars on the large model and 10 dollars on the small one, by our arithmetic.

Free to change, built on Alibaba's Qwen

Both carry the Apache 2.0 licence, which lets anyone use and change them, also for business. They are built on Alibaba's Qwen models, the pages say.

What is confirmed and what is not

Perplexity's developer account wrote on X that the small model is the best 4 billion model on the Decision Index, as Digg shows the post. Daily Agentic could not open the post itself.
