Reflection AI announces Beam, an open model out later in October

Reflection AI announced Beam on the 5th of October and said anyone can download it later this month.

Reflection AI announced Beam, its first open model, on the 5th of October 2026, according to the company's blog. Open means anyone can download the model and run it on their own computers.

The company said it will release Beam later in October under the Apache 2.0 licence. That licence lets people use the model for free, also inside their own products.

A small group can try Beam earlier through a waitlist, Reflection said.

Why it matters

Beam scores close to bigger open models but needs three to four times less computing power, according to the post. Computing power is what makes AI models expensive to run.

Reflection said these figures are its own estimates. They are partly built on test results from other groups.

Key facts

Beam has 501 billion parameters, the numbers a model learns in training. Only 23 billion of them work at the same time, the post says.

Beam reads and writes text only. It can hold 1 million tokens, small pieces of words, at once, the company said.

In Reflection's own tests, Beam scored 80.9 on SWE-Bench Verified, a test of fixing real software bugs. Kimi K3, another open model, still scores higher on several tests, Reflection said.

Reflection trained Beam in under four weeks on 6,144 NVIDIA chips, according to the post. Its scores kept rising the longer it trained, the company said.

On the 23rd of April, the company's chief executive told CNBC that Reflection was worth 25 billion dollars, the company's newsroom page says.

What's next

Reflection said it will publish its safety test results in a technical report when Beam comes out. The company is already training the next model in the series.
